Ocoee Whitewater Center

The Ocoee Whitewater Center was constructed to host the 1996 Olympic Canoe and Kayak Slalom competitions.  There is a lovely paved walk around the water where you can find a place to sit and watch the many rafters go by.  Bring some cash as there is a small fee ($3 when we visited) per parking space.  If you arrive early enough, you can watch the water fill the area about 90 minutes after the dam releases it.  There are several trails at the location, including the 1.6m Rhododendron Trail that connects the center with nearby Thunder Rock Campground and Old Copper Road Trail (about 5m RT).  You can combine several for a great loop hike.  If time permits, you can drive up Chilhowee Mountain to an amazing view of Ocoee then on to Benton Falls.  If traveling toward Cleveland, you will want to stop for lunch at Ocoee Dam Deli & Diner or grab a delicious milkshake at The Shak Drive-In (aka Shake Shack)!
