Kentucky Parks

We highly recommend a visit to one of Kentucky State Parks.   Each one we have visited is kept clean and has friendly staff ready to greet you.   Scattered across the state, many offer great lodging and meals which works perfectly with road trips.

Big Bone Lick State Historic Site

Big Bone Lick has an exhibit area, bison viewing and several trails under 1 mile.  It is dog friendly and has a campground with 62 campsites.  In addition to the historic information and bison viewing, the site offers two orienteering courses where you can hone your wood navigation skills.

Carter Caves State Resort Park

Carter Caves has hiking trails, cave tours and even a miniature golf course!  Be sure to grab some lunch at Tierney's Cavern before heading out to explore.

Greenbo Lake State Resort Park

Greenbo Lake offers multi-use trails, boating and even has a scuba refuge!  We stayed at the lodge and had a delicious dinner at Anglers Cove Restaurant.

Blue Licks Battlefield
State Resort Park

Blue Licks Battlefield has a monument marking the final battle of the American Revolutionary War in Kentucky. It is multi-use with an amazing gift shop featuring local artists.  We enjoyed lunch at the Hidden Waters Restaurant,

Cumberland Falls State Resort Park

Cumberland Falls is known for its moonbow.  Be sure to visit the Riverview Restaurant inside the DuPont Lodge.

Pine Mountain State Resort Park

Kentucky's first state park has a lodge and cottages for overnight visits and is home to the championship Wasioto Winds 18-hole golf course.  Chained Rock is a very popular feature that comes with an interesting story.  If you decide to hike to it, be warned there are no guardrails for safety, so may not be the best idea for little ones.  You will pass an old rock shelter on the way to Meditation Point on the Hemlock Garden Trail.  Near the trailhead, across the street behind the lodge, you will find the fossil tree lycopod stump surrounded by rock on a gravel path.  After your visit head to The Butcher's Pub in Pineville - try the Reuben Egg Rolls!
